Broomfield, Colo., November 24, 2009 - MWH, the global wet infrastructure sector leader and provider of environmental engineering, construction and strategic consulting services, announced today that it has been awarded the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Excellence Award for upgrades and modifications completed as part of the second phase of the Corona del Mar Water Treatment Plant (WTP) for the Goleta Water District in Santa Barbara, Calif.
Winning projects are honored for their advanced and innovative application of total integrated project delivery and ability to find unique solutions to project challenges. This $20.7 million design-build project encompassed upgrades, modifications and new construction to a 35-year-old, 36-million-gallons-per-day water treatment plant. Through this project, the Goleta Water District was successful at establishing and conveying its philosophy and goal to the community on the importance of becoming a responsible steward of the environment, water and energy resources.
"Recognition by the Design-Build Institute of America is something to celebrate," said Joseph D. Adams, president of MWH Constructors. "We're extremely honored to have received this award for our work with the Goleta Water District in Southern California on the Corona del Mar Water Treatment Plant. Our goal is to deliver innovative design, quality construction and efficient processes to our clients and we are thrilled to have received this recognition."
Nearly all water delivered to the Goleta Water District's approximately 80,000 customers is treated at the community's only water treatment plant - the Corona del Mar WTP. The design-build project is targeting LEED® Gold certification and, once it achieves certification, it will be one of the first plants in California to receive that honor.
Design-build is a construction project delivery system in which the design and construction aspects are contracted to a single entity known as a design-build contractor. DBIA promotes the value of design-build project delivery and honors the effective integration of design and construction services.
MWH Constructors is the construction arm of MWH Global, Inc. and has received numerous awards, including being named one of the nation's safest contractors by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). It is one of the few wet infrastructure organizations that offers design-build services that are fully facilitated by in-house staff.
