Broomfield, Colo., July 29, 2010 – MWH, the global wet infrastructure sector leader and provider of environmental engineering, construction and strategic consulting services, received a U.S. Air Force (USAF) 2010 Honor Award in the facility design category for its design-build of the Space Innovation and Development Center (SIDC) headquarters. The facility was completed for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) at Schriever Air Force Base near Colorado Springs, Colo.
Founded in 1976, the USAF Design Awards Program seeks to recognize and promote design excellence and establish the benchmark for all USAF facilities. The facility design category is a broad category that includes engineering or industrial projects, architectural design projects, additions and alterations.
Award submittals are evaluated yearly on several factors, including the degree to which programming requirements were met; uniqueness of the design solution; compatibility with other facilities on the installation; the sustainable and energy conservation aspects of the design; the composite integration of architectural, engineering, interior design and landscape design; construction execution and the ratio between the programmed amount and the actual construction cost.
MWH completed the $19 million SIDC project in August 2009 with the help of Cromwell Architects, who served as design services subcontractor. The facility con¬solidated multiple groups that comprise the SIDC of the Air Force Space Command (AFSPC) in a functional, visually appealing command center.
