At MWH we strive every day toward Building a Better World. Our support to disadvantaged children and adults this holiday season typifies that notion.
For the last six years, MWH staff in Broomfield, Denver and Westminster, Colo. offices supported their local community through participation in the 9Cares Colorado Shares winter food drive. The winter food drive is used to help restock depleted shelves in food banks across Colorado. Year after year, MWH employees come together to donate thousands of dollars and pounds of food to this cause. This year employees contributed more than 2,800 pounds of food and nearly $4,300.
In addition to supporting our community with generous donations, the food drive allowed for friendly competition through the 9Cares Corporate Challenge, whereby MWH competed among similar sized local corporations. A separate challenge coordinated by Rocky Mountain Section of AWWA and Rocky Mountain Water Environment Association (RMSAWWA / RMWEA) Young Professionals revealed who, among local engineering firms, donated the most total items and most items per employee. Although MWH did not win the 9Cares Corporate Challenge, our firm was recognized as the winning firm in both categories of the RMSAWWA / RMWEA competition.
In addition to the 9Cares Colorado Shares food drive, the Broomfield-based Creative Services department extended its holiday giving with donations to the Denver Rescue Mission. This Thanksgiving, the Denver Rescue Mission aimed to provide over 185,000 meals—meals which can be provided with a donation of just $1.92. Creative Services' contributions allowed 113 disadvantaged Coloradans to enjoy a hot Thanksgiving dinner.
"This was another terrific season of giving" said Jed Iverson, senior structural engineer for MWH. "Life can definitely be a struggle at times, but because of our generous actions, people in a time of need will get some welcome help."
