Singapore, June 26, 2012 – The Day After Tomorrow, a thought-provoking movie on the rebuilding of New Orleans, Louisiana, Queensland, Australia and Christchurch, New Zealand after crippling natural disasters tore apart each city, will screen at the MWH Water Dome, a fully-functioning cinema located at Water Expo Booth R22 in the Sands Expo and Convention Center, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore from 2 to 4 July.
As the number and scale of natural disasters intensifies around the world, this must see film gives practical insight into the challenges of rebuilding shattered cities and communities in the wake of a disaster. It showcases the integrated, multi-disciplinary approach needed to accommodate both short-term needs and long-term solutions says the film’s producer, global consulting, construction and engineering company MWH Global.
Working with communities following natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and the 2011 earthquakes in Christchurch, MWH has vast experience in disaster recovery and management and will discuss best practice approaches at the upcoming Singapore International Water Week 2012 (SIWW).
According to MWH Asia Pacific Director of Program Management Mark Simister, who played a vital role in the mobilisation of the Christchurch Earthquake Recovery Program, “The key to a successful rebuilding program is the ability to identify, prioritise and address quickly the thousands of projects and claims that occur. And this goes way beyond engineering expertise and basic project management.
“Due to the scope and scale of a rebuilding project after a natural disaster, there are many additional factors that are crucially important. Organisations must have an understanding of funding options and an ability to engage and inform the community throughout the process to help rebuild not only the area’s infrastructure and economy but also the community’s spirit,” he explained.
The movie will be screened daily from July 2-4 with times shown on the MWH website. Delegates and media are encouraged to attend.
