SINGAPORE, June 29, 2012 – When one of mankind’s greatest achievements, the Panama Canal was completed in 1914, it opened up endless opportunities for global commerce. Today almost a century later, global consulting, construction and engineering company MWH Global is the lead designer of the new Post-Panamax navigation locks that will double the canal’s capacity and keep the world connected.
The Shipping News 2, an interactive iPad demonstration which follows last year’s wildly successful MWH Water Dome film, The Shipping News, will show how the design team is delivering cutting-edge, sustainable solutions that will enable rapid opening and closing of gates and efficient filling and emptying of the locks based on innovative hydraulic design. The lock wall designs incorporate drains that reduce the static and dynamic loads on the walls, reducing their section size, while achieving the required performance goals related to deflection and durability.
“The Panama Canal expansion is one of the world’s highest profile design and construction projects and MWH Global is proud to be a part of the solution to that will improve the way goods are transported around the world,” commented Emma Pryor, strategy and planning manager for management consulting services in Asia Pacific.
“It will provide sustainable water and energy solutions, and our design work will help influence future engineering and water-related projects. We encourage all those who can come along to the premier to do so to learn about this absolutely amazing project,” she said.
The movie will be screened daily from July 2-4 with times shown on the MWH website.
