"Treating Wastewater from a Chinese Facility" How can a leading US-based global technology company effectively treat wastewater coming from its new manufacturing plant in China? At Intel's new flash-memory facility — located in the Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone in Pudong, Shanghai — MWH is working to do just that. The US $198 million facility is the tech giant's first manufacturing plant in China. The facility was first announced by Intel in 1995, and now employs 400 people to assemble and test flash-memory chips for use in PCs, digital camera and other electronic devices. Expansion of the plant is already underway. Design-Build Contract MWH's newly established joint venture in China — MWH-BODA Environmental
Engineering Founded in 2000, MWH-BODA brings together MWH’s strengths with one of China's leading environmental firms (BODA), and one of its largest construction firms (Beijing Urban and Rural Construction Group). By combining proven Chinese expertise with MWH's instant access to global technology and knowledge, the collaboration makes it easier than before to execute large, complex projects throughout Asia. On the Intel project, the team worked on a fast-track schedule that required design and construction to occur nearly simultaneously. This approach enabled MWH to complete the 600-cubic-meter-per-day wastewater treatment facility in less than six months. MWH handled a wide variety of areas for Intel, including site investigation
and development, design and construction, equipment procurement and system
commissioning. Additionally, we provided operator training for Intel employees.
Due to the success of this project, Intel has awarded MWH a second contract
to expand its wastewater treatment capacity. |
