MWH, now part of Stantec, employees celebrated a groundbreaking in West Palm Beach recently. The new $25 million (USD) water treatment plant will use high-intensity ultraviolet (UV) light treatment, a method the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says is nearly 100 percent effective.
The City of West Palm Beach’s drinking water was named by the American Water Works Association as the nation’s best tasting drinking water (Broward County and Palm Beach County).
An additional benefit of the treatment methodology is an expected annual cost savings of $100,000 (USD) as a result of increased energy efficiency. Watch the recent television spot about the event here:
This is the latest development for a project site with a long, proud heritage. The original treatment plant dates to 1901 and the new facility will be built alongside the historic pump building, which will be renovated.
