MWH Treatment Apprentice Lydia Garaghty was awarded Apprentice of the Year at the Rochdale Training Awards Evening. The event, held at the Rochdale Town Hall, recognizes the achievements of Apprentices and Learners with a drinks reception and awards ceremony.

Lydia beat off the strong competition from other nominees put forward by the Rochdale Training Centre to take home the top prize. Her work with the apprentice programme and MWH Treatment has been recognized as exemplary by the Rochdale Training team and is an example of the high standard of MWH apprentice.

The award acknowledged her overall performance, attitude to work, time keeping, attendance, job reports and assessment pieces completed whilst rotating around the different sections within the Rochdale training center.

Lydia was taken by surprise by the accolade, “I was overwhelmed to receive the award. It was completely unexpected. It’s a huge privilege to be named Apprentice of the Year 2016 and I’m pleased my parents and employers were able to be there to share the moment with me.

She also thanked MWH Treatment for allowing her to be trained for a full year at RTA and is now onto the second year of the apprenticeship based at the Salford office, rotating around the business gaining overall knowledge and experience in different disciplines. “I am very grateful that MWH gave me the opportunity of an apprenticeship and it gives me great pride to be recognised for all my effort and the hard work”.

Manager Aidan Spillane, who was in attendance at the event, said “Well done to Lydia, this is a fabulous achievement and is recognition of your excellent performance in the first year. MWH Treatment believes the Apprentice Programme adds real value to the business, it is therefore pleasing to see our apprentices doing so well. We have a record of high achievement at Rochdale Training College and I would also thank them for all the support and guidance they give our apprentices.”

A massive congratulations to Lydia, hopefully the first of many awards.
