MWH, now part of Stantec, has been awarded a contract from the African Development Bank for supporting the Nigerian government with the implementation of the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) Initiative in Nigeria. Under the contract, MWH will provide specific advisory services and technical assistance to the Federal Ministry of Power to assist with the development of the country’s investment prospectus in order to promote clean energy, energy access and energy efficiency projects in the country.
The purpose of the investment prospectus is to mobilize funds from investors, by creating a pipeline of the investment opportunities and possibilities in off-grid (solar home systems and mini-grids) and energy efficiency projects in Nigeria. As part of this project, MWH will develop an inception report detailing inputs, outputs, processes and milestones for the development of the prospectus. The investment prospectus includes an investment thesis depicting the investment climate and trends in each sub-sector of focus (Off-grid and Energy Efficiency) including the policy, legal and regulatory issues relevant to each sub-sector. The investment prospectus finally presents a pipeline of bankable investment opportunities (projects) at different stages of readiness for both sub-sectors. Once the investment prospectus has been finalised MWH teams will identify target audiences and possible investors (public and private). Last but not least, MWH experts will develop an outreach plan for mobilizing resources for implementation of the investment prospectus, thus helping Nigeria achieve its SE4ALL goals as set out in the country’s Action Agenda validated in 2015.
Christophe Leroy, Operations Director for MWH in Belgium: “Our experience with sustainable energy and energy efficiency projects in developing countries, as well as our involvement in the implementation of the SE4ALL initiative in Western Africa, makes us perfectly suited for this project. We are excited to help the support the African Development Bank and the Nigerian government with this important project and look forward to putting our experience and expertise to good use here.”
