The UK Department for International Development (DFID) awarded MWH, now part of Stantec, the contract for conducting an independent review of the DFID East Africa Geothermal program in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda.

The East Africa Geothermal Energy program was created to encourage investments in geothermal development in East Africa through two support facilities: the Geothermal Risk Mitigation Facility (GRMF), through which support is provided to private and public geothermal developers to reduce the financial risk in the early stages of geothermal development, and the East Africa Geothermal (EAGER) Technical Assistance Facility, a flexible and demand responsive technical assistance facility to help countries put in place the policies, regulations and institutional structures that facilitate investment in geothermal power.

MWH will conduct an independent review of the program to report on the general progress and major issues affecting progress and – where needed – recommend adjustments to ensure the program runs effectively and delivers the intended outcomes.

Christophe Leroy, Operations Director for MWH in Belgium: “We as an organisation have many years of experience running programs aimed at improving situations and expanding opportunities for sustainable energy and energy efficiency projects in this region. We look forward to using our unique insights and useful experience to help this program achieve all it was meant to achieve. We are also happy to increase our experience working for DFID, such an important development partner.”
