Broomfield, Colo., May 11, 2011 – MWH announced it has been awarded the William H. Feather Safety Award for 2010 from the National Utility Contractor Association (NUCA), the largest trade association representing the underground utilities industry in the legislative arena and with government agencies. MWH won the award in the 500,000 to 1,000,000 hour category.

The William H. Feather Safety Award is one of the most prestigious honors awarded each year by NUCA to recognize companies that strive for safety and the general wellbeing of their employees. NUCA awards the William H. Feather Safety Award in five categories, which are established according to total man hours worked. Companies are judged according to their incidence rates, safety statement and safety program information. Participation in NUCA safety programs and activities is also taken into consideration.

“This award proves we are competing with the best underground and utility contractors in the nation and shows our continued dedication to project safety,” said Bernie Roma, director of health and safety for MWH Constructors.

Created in 1978 to honor the contributions of the founding chairman of NUCA’s Safety Committee, the William H. Feather Safety Awards recognize the highest commitment to safety demonstrated by deserving NUCA members. William H. Feather was the first chairman of the organization’s Safety Committee and is widely regarded as the backbone of NUCA’s early safety initiatives.

The award presentation took place at the NUCA national awards luncheon on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 held in conjunction with NUCA’s annual Washington Summit at the Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.
