Milan, June 2011 – MWH won a first prize at Power Gen Europe 2011 Best Paper Award in one of the two Renewable Energy categories with the paper titled “Large Scale PV in Italy: technical, financial and contractual challenges”. This was part of our contribution as leading experts, exhibitors and speakers at the major international power generation exhibition held this year in Milan from 7 to 9 June.
The Power Gen exhibition incorporated two separate congresses, Nuclear Power Europe and Renewable Energy World Europe. The prize winning paper was delivered in the latter one. Power Gen Europe 2011 also included keynote speeches by major players in the European power sector and a plenary session streamed live on the internet, focusing on whether and how European policy targets could be met.
The main author and presenter of the winning paper was Barbara Orlandi, MWH project engineer based in Milan, whose contribution origins from the work undertaken on several photovoltaic (PV) projects on large scale PV plants in Italy under the Second Italian Incentive Scheme.
In her paper Barbara analyses the main aspects of project-financed large scale PV plants, with reference to the Italian market. The paper underlines the importance of the interactions between technical, contractual and economical elements: several approaches are presented, together with numbers and examples stemming from MWH Italy’s projects on 1 to 15 MWp PV plants.
Barbara said: “The paper presented a critical review of the assets and project portfolios MWH was involved in. Winning the first prize was a great honor and a recognition of MWH’s expertise and track record in the sustainable energy sector. I would like to thank the MWH team who contributed to this paper: Paolo Polinelli, Bank Advising Director, Fabio Corti, Technical expert, RemonZakaria, Project Manager and Sergio Pomodoro, electrical expert and consultant.”
